Participation rules for the Chainsawcarving German Open 2010 in Mulda/Sachsen /Germany, Friday, may 21st to Monday, may 24th 2010

Dear friends,

Here are the rules for the competition 2010.
We will invite 22 chainsawcarvers.
Competitors are from Australia, the USA, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Equador, Austria, Switzerland and Germany .

For all people who fly in we will have vans for transport.

Chainsaw and Tools

We will have chainsaws for everybody who travels by airplane… We ask you to bring your own carvingbars ear-protection, glasses and safety-chaps Gas and oil is sponsored by the company Aspen Special tools or any sander or grinder you need to bring or organize for yourself with other carvers.

Insurance

Every competitor from other countries has to have a health insurance for foreign countries.

Theme for the main pieces

"The history of the underground mining in Saxonia ( Saxonia is the province where the competition will take place). " Erzgebirge" (ore-mountains) is the name of the area. 2008 we made a table out of a 40 meter spruce. This table needs a roof with 22 pillars to hold. Every pillar will be 2,5 meters high and around 0,80 meter thick. 900 years ago the first people came to live at the Erzgebirge, and this area was influenced from underground mining for ore. So we want to show this history of mining. Until February 2010 we will create 22 drawings of the traditional mininers. By march when we now the participating competitors we will assign the drawings by lot, you than have two more months to get prepared . It is not allowed to paint or colour or burn the sculptures.

Main Piece

Every competitor will get 800,- Euro for his main piece and with this the main piece belongs to the organizer of the event. Every competitor is bound to sign his sculpture .

Wood

We have oak for every competitor. Please let us know until January (?) how thick your wood has to be.

Time

We will start the competition on Friday at 9:00 am and we have to be finished on Monday at 14:00 pm. Inbetween you can carve whenever you want to.

Awards for the sculptures.

Speedcarving

The auction starts at 16:00pm. If you need your time for your main sculpture you don't have to join the speedcarving auction. 50% of the proceeds goes to the carver and 50% goes to the organizer. The highest total revenue will win.

The first three Germans will qualify for the German Speedcarving Competition.

Awards Speedcarving

Award from the District Administrator

The District Administrator will give a special award of 800,- Euro for the carving he likes the most.

The time before and after…

All competitors from other countries are our guests from 17th May until 27th May. After the competition we would love to show you our beautiful, saxonian home country.
